"That was fellow-level research, Destiny, congratulations!" Dr. Abigail M. Ramseyer, DOAnd that's a wrap! Over two years of research have led to this morning's opportunity to present at the Sparrow Health System's Grand Rounds! It was such an honour to be invited by Stephanie Fleming, Chair, Dept of Ob/Gyn Sparrow Hospital, following my presentation at the #HEALSexualHealthConference2024 at Michigan State University! My research on the overutilisation of emergency services is multifold;1. Identifying patients seen in Michigan hospital systems (Urban, 100000+ populations)2. Determine overutlisation status based on ICD-10 codes, provider discharge summary, and patient recommendations. Encourage survey participation.3. Provide educational interventions (video, brochure, poster) and send out retake attempts to survey participants following a 30-day period. This research not only highlights significant levels of overutilisation in Michigan but also which education interventions and resources are most effective in developing informed decision-making from our patients, thus relieving the burden on our emergency staff and providers. Please do not hesitate to reach out for more information or feedback. Thank you for your support in my research journey; I look forward to continuing this research journey following my graduation from Michigan State University College of Natural Science!#healthcare #emergencymedicine #research #undergraduate #grandrounds

The first step to better health care and access for people across our state is collaboration with like-minded organizations that can help us deliver better value and improved access. That’s why it’s so meaningful that UNC Health and Blue Cross NC shared today that we’ve reached a long-term agreement to continue our long-standing work together. What does this mean for North Carolinians?1. Rural areas benefit from this collaboration. All Blue Cross NC members will have access to UNC Health, no matter where they live in the state, and the four-year agreement will enable further collaboration on new ways to improve care and access for patients across North Carolina, especially in rural areas.2. Strong collaboration matters for our state. Together, our organizations have joined forces including conducting a clinical study to improve food security and chronic conditions and creating a physician’s assistant master’s degree for veteran medics at the UNC School of Medicine.. 3. Stability provides peace of mind. UNC Health and Blue Cross NC have worked together for many years. We are both born in North Carolina, created to serve our state. I'm excited that this news reflects our shared commitment and ongoing collaborative spirit. https://lnkd.in/d5GqHRi5

Hospital rankings, such as those by U.S. News & World Report, are significant for hospitals and patients alike. They offer a benchmark for healthcare quality and can influence patient choices and hospital reputation. However, some hospital administrators question the rankings' authority and importance, suggesting a nuanced view of their impact. Creating a healthier future is crucial for communities as it enhances overall well-being, reduces healthcare costs, and fosters a supportive environment for sustainable development. It leads to improved quality of life and longevity for community members.#unitedseniorassociation #USA #eldercare #FDA #seniorliving #ADA #AI #NIH #patientcare #compliance #hospitals #OIG #healthcare #HHSOIG #digitalhealth #HSS #CMS #assistedliving #nursinghomes #seniorcare #medicare #seniorcitizen #homehealthcare #caregiver #dementia #inhomecare #seniorhealth #kloekorby #alzheimers #mentalhealth

Vertical Integration of Medicine - A BAD DREAM!!!!!!!!!!In Indiana (e.g. Indianapolis), this translates into worse medical care for patients. The euphemisms of improvement because of vertical integration in our City got turned around because of COVID and non-compete employment contracts. The article sounds great from an academic perspective. In reality, it has not worked for our fair city. Sometimes that vertical integration involves a multi-state health care system. For an example, try to find an internal medicine physician in the Ascension-St Vincent system now that is taking new patients, (GOOD LUCK!!!)I challenge IU-HEALTH, ST. FRANCIS, COMMUNITY HEALTH to prove me wrong that your systems are any better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have a crisis of primary care providers in our town and none of these are entities are coming close to solving the problem. It gets back to the total lack of an adequate number of primary care providers being trained in our state whether in terms of the number of medical schools (only one mediocre allopathic school and only one osteopathic school) or the number of residency programs to train primary care providers. Citizens of Indiana you are on your own!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
